We have started science again and I think it’s going to be fun. What we have to do is find out what plants respond to, for example if we took a plant and put black paper over the plant and we cut one small square and the plant might bend to the light. We all get to choose what experiment we want to do and then we look for results.

A regular day for the 9-12ers starts at Morning Meeting. Morning Meeting starts at 8:30 Students try to be there by then. Work Time starts at 9:00. Students sign themselves up for snack and get out their work folders. They work in between lessons.
During work time, students should do some math and whatever work they have, such as history, spelling, or grammar. Right now, for math, spelling, and grammar, everyone is doing different things. During history, we’re studying the Revolutionary War.

In History we are studying the Revolutionary War and the period just before and after it. We are reading a fake newspaper called “Hedgehog’s Herald” and then we fill out worksheets with questions. Here’s what everyone thinks about history:
“It’s not my favorite.” — Anna
“It’s boring.” –Jocelyn
“I don’t love it.” — Ali
“I like it.” — Alex
“I like the Hedghog’s Herald.” — Maizey
We can’t wait to see what’s next in history!

Before April break, the 9-12 class chose our literature circle books for the rest of the year. What we do is David puts out a few books and explains what each of them is about. After that, David gives us each a ballot and we choose our first, second, and third choices for the books. After vacation, we found out which book groups we are in. The book groups are:
Chains: Eamon, Maizey, Ali, Anna, Kevin
Fever, 1793: Jocelyn, Ryaan, Shea, Sophia
Attack of the Turtle: Quinn, Lia, Michael Paul, Alex, Karen
Woods Runner: Skyler, Brennan, Jason, Nick, Alice
David purposely put out books that are placed in the time of the revolutionary war because we are studying this in history. The only bad thing about this round of lit Circles is that the seniors will be away for week 2 of the discussions. We had our first Lit Circle meeting last Thursday and we are all very excited.

On Thursday, April 12, the 9-12ers had our geography fair. It was really fun! Everyone spent around 3/4ths of the time at their booth, but also wandered and tasted food. It was so fun! If there were geography fair awards, we would be winners! I know that I had a good time. We spent all day Thursday getting ready. When we finished, we helped other people. Then in the afternoon, the 6-9 class came in and took a look at our booths. They didn’t get to sample the food, but we had all our information ready. The end of the day was really crazy. Everyone was running around making food signs and last-minute things. Then, it was time! David explained what we had ben doing, and then everyone started walking around. It was really cool when people told us personal connections to our countries. We even found out things we didn’t know! Thank you all for coming!

The Geography Fair finally ended, and we are happy about it. It was fun and all, but it was a lot of stress, and there is a lot of overdue work now. We cleaned up on the day after the fair, and we took the stuff home. It’s over, but it’s also time to catch up on all our work. A lot of people feel bad about the geography fair, but on the other hand, some people really enjoyed it. The geography fair was good, but I think it could have been better.

Ali- It was good for me.
Lia- Everyone came for the food and not the display.

Alex- It was great.
Quinn- It was nice to have people come and look at our displays.

So in the 9-12 class we are working on projects and everyone loves what they are doing. We got the option to do research, animation, and photography. We get time to do our projects every Monday and Friday. The seniors get an option to do a project because they have senior project to do.
Shea and Lia are studying Bethany Hamilton
Anna is doing photography
Jason is doing an art project
Ryaan is doing photography
Ali is doing animation
Skyler is doing animation
Alex is doing animation
Quinn is doing a study of soccer
MPJ is doing animation
Brennan is doing photography
All of the seniors are doing their senior projects.
That is what everyone in the 9-12 class is doing for their independent project.

Newsflash–on April 28th, Oak Grove had an auction. They made $24,000 dollars! This will help them with their financial aid, which will help people pay for school. It will fund other costs too like things that they can’t pay for with tuition money. This was a great thing for the school!
Lia says that the funds will be, “great for the school.”
Shea: “I think that the fund might pay for lockers.”
Alex thinks that the money will, “pay for new materials.”
